ST. JOHNSBURY, VT (July 19, 2024) – Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) received a donation of 80 blankets from Saint J Subaru, which partnered with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) as part of the Subaru Loves to Care program, on July 9, 2024.
This is the 9th consecutive year that Subaru has partnered with LLS. Since 2016, Subaru and LLS has delivered nearly 350,000. Also delivered with the blankets were messages of hope written by local Subaru customers and staff during the month of June, Subaru’s Loves to Care month.
NVRH Med-Surg Educator Teresa Farr-Messenger witnesses the impact of these blankets firsthand.
“To see the smile on patients’ faces as they are presented with one of these soft blankets is heartwarming,” Farr-Messenger said. “And then when they read the enclosed card of encouragement, the smile only gets bigger. We are so appreciative for the comfort these blankets offer during someone’s illness, and the way in which the community is showing their support for our patients in a very tangible way.”
Blankets and cards will be distributed throughout the year to patients in NVRH’s Med-Surg and Emergency departments.
According to LLS Northeast Campaign Development Specialist Brooke Hutchins, “We’ve found that the cards are a great way to let patients know that people in their community, who they don’t even know, support them and are sending wishes of hope, strength and courage as they battle their disease or illness.”
LLS is a nonprofit dedicated to combating blood cancers. Their mission, which is supported by nearly $1.6 billion in research, is to improve the quality of life of patients and their families by searching for a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma.
