FREE High Blood Pressure Management Workshop Starts Sept. 11
“I think one of the keys to being successful when it comes to improving your health is feeling like you can make choices, like you are not alone,” Kingdom Internal Medicine provider Tina Heck, FNP, said. “It’s why doing a workshop like this can be really great. You meet others who are committing to their health in a way that might be similar to you. And you’re learning new things so you can make better choices. That will always empower you.”
DANVILLE, VT (August 22, 2024) – Starting on September 11, a free, in-person blood pressure management workshop will meet weekly – for eight weeks – at the Danville United Methodist Church, 5 – 6:30 p.m. The High Blood Pressure Management Workshop, also known as Health Coaches for Hypertension Control, was developed to help participants take control of managing their high blood pressure at home.
According to the MyHealthyVT workshop webpage, “About 1 in every 4 Vermont adults has been told they have high blood pressure… If left untreated, it can damage your circulatory system and lead to serious problems, such as heart attack, stroke, kidney damage or brain health complications, such as memory loss and confusion.”
The good news is there’s a lot one can do to manage their high blood pressure and help prevent these problems. A trained lifestyle coach and fellow participants will guide and support each other. Participants can also expect to:
- Learn the basics of controlling high blood pressure
- Learn how to monitor your blood pressure at home
- Make healthier eating choices
- Get more physical activity in your daily life
- Help quitting smoking or tobacco
- Reduce stress and stay motivated
- Better manage blood pressure medications
- Solve problems and create plans for action and change
