ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (December 8, 2023) – Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) students from the Technical Education Center at Lyndon Institute (LI) are doing clinical rotations at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) from Thursday, November 30 through Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
Students Leaun Danforth, Breyona Donaghy, Cassandra Leonard, Lorin LeClair, Hailey Allen, Georgia Fisher and Tia McLeod will see – in action – all of the things that they have been taught in the SIM LAB at LI with their instructor Britta Hensel. They will rotate in the Emergency Department, Day Surgery, Intensive Care Unit, Med-Surg floor, Respiratory Care and Birth Center. Each will spend two to three days in each unit interning with a current NVRH LNA stationed in their particular unit. If no LNAs are available, the students will intern with available staff and providers.
Last year was the first year LNA students did rotations at NVRH. All of the students who were qualified to take the State of Vermont licensing exam, passed and became LNAs.
“It has been an incredible experience to work with these students,” NVRH Director of Volunteer Services Pat Forest said. “They are engaged and grateful for the experience this internship gives them. I suspect many of them will return for LI’s January Term, which is an interim term between the first and second semesters where students study subjects of their choosing, to further explore careers in healthcare.”
