2024 Scholastic Achievement Awards

NVRH Auxiliary presents the 2024 in Scholastic Achievement Awards
$9,000 in funding for healthcare students

JOHNSBURY, VT (May 16, 2024) – The Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) Auxiliary announced this year’s recipients of their Scholastic Achievement Awards, which totaled $9,000 and is presented annually to both high school and adult students who are pursuing a career in healthcare. The scholarships were presented by Scholastic Achievement Award Committee Chair, Beulah McGinnis at the NVRH Conference Center. The 2024 award winners are:

  • Kylee LaPete – $2,500 – Vermont State University, Nursing
  • Kadienne Whitcomb – $2,500 – Vermont State University, Athletic Training
  • Lydia Gillespie – $1,000 – University of Vermont, Pre-Med Bio-Chemistry
  • Jillian Wells – $1,000 – Liberty University, Nursing
  • Shannon Florentine – $1,000 – Husson University, Nursing
  • Aidan Brody – $1,000 – Dartmouth College, Pre-Med

Traditionally the award committee offers three $2,500 awards. “This year, we did not have three qualified candidates for the larger amount, so we gave two extra $1,000 awards,” said Pat Forest, Director of Volunteer Services. The committee received 17 award applications in total. All students who applied for a $1,000 award are also able to re-apply in their junior or senior year of college for a $2,500 award.

NVRH Scholastic Achievement Awards have been presented for over two decades and have provided more than $100,000 in scholarships to area students. Funds from the NVRH Auxiliary come from monies raised throughout the year and through the Annual Scholastic Achievement Award Raffle. This year’s raffle winners were:

  • Kate Crocker – $300 Cash
  • Lisa McCrae – $200 Cash
  • Ed Zuccaro – $100 Cash
  • Chip Devenger – VINS Nature Center – 2 Regular Day Passes
  • Henry Cheney – Jay Peak Family Pass to the Pump House
  • Paula Gaskin – Smugglers Notch Bash Badge
  • Judy Daloz – Vermont Lake Monster Tickets (4)
  • Dan Daley – 1 round of golf for 4 at Stratton Mountain Resort
  • Nelson Whitehill – Sanderson’s Wooden Bowls
  • Donated Back – Wildflower Inn $200 toward night stay, $50 towards dinner
  • Dee Palmer – Admission Pass Montshire Museum of Science (2)
  • Peter Miller – State Inspection Gift Certificate to Wes Ward Auto
  • Denise Stuart -Table from Mayo’s Furniture
  • Denise Stuart – Gift Certificate to Kingdom Tap Room with 3 t-shirts
  • Jane Kitchel – 1 Adult and 3 baby sweaters donated by Judy Thielmann

The NVRH Auxiliary is a welcoming group of engaged volunteers who participate in a wide variety of activities at the hospital including: the information desk and gift shop, our West Wing Expansion project, mammography and dietary departments, Reiki and music services, laundry, administrative and business offices and knitting.
