ST. JOHNSBURY, VT (September 18, 2023) –Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH) invites the public to join a multidisciplinary committee meeting to discuss clinical practices, areas for improvement and any needed changes surrounding breastfeeding initiatives. The meeting, which will take place in NVRH conference room 127, will be held Thursday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m.

The NVRH Community Breastfeeding Meeting, which includes hospital administrators, providers, nursing staff, lactation consultants and community members, is a component of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), a program that was launched in 1991 as a public health initiative and administered by the World Health Organization & UNICEF.

NVRH was the first hospital in Vermont to be designated as Baby-Friend in 1999.

“We know that human milk is the best nutrition for infants,” NVRH Lactation Consultant Carol Moore-Whitney said. “We also know that it is important that every parent feel supported in making an informed decision on how they wish to feed their baby.”

The meeting will last approximately one hour and light refreshments will be served. Community members interested in learning more and providing input on breastfeeding initiatives and support are encouraged to attend. For more information and to RSVP, please call NVRH Lactation Consultant Carol Moore-Whitney at 802-748-7333 or email her at c.moore-whitney@nvrh.org.
