Patient flight transport will be temporarily moved to field by Community Gardens

ST. JOHNSBURY, VT (August 15, 2025) – Due to ongoing West Wing construction at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital (NVRH), the helicopter landing zone used to transport patients will be moved temporarily. Effective August 18 – 29, the landing zone will be relocated next to Calex Ambulance Service, in the field adjacent to the NVRH Community Gardens.

The temporary move is due to trench digging which will be taking place behind the main building. Area residents who utilize the plots in the Community Gardens, as well as visitors, will need to evacuate the area should a helicopter transport be imminent. In addition, tools and loose objects which may become airborne will need to be removed from the garden areas. Parking near the garden will also be restricted to designated lots and no parking on the lawn will be allowed.

During the relocation, EMS, local police, and fire will be on site to aid in the moving of patients. There may be some impact to traffic during take-off and landing.

NVRH’s Director of Enterprise Projects, Jacqueline Zaun, expects minimal impact during the temporary helicopter pad relocation, but invites patients and visitors with questions to call the hospital at 802-748-8141.

“We appreciate the flexibility of our community gardeners during this unexpected change and anticipate the landing zone to return to its previous location right after Labor Day weekend,” said Zaun.

NVRH’s West Wing expansion will expand and improve the hospital’s Emergency Department, laboratory, and in-house pharmacy to better meet the needs of the community. Construction is expected to last until 2027. Patients and visitors are encouraged to use the main entrance when arriving at NVRH, and to visit nvrh.org for up-to-date information about parking, walkways and entrances.
