Carlos Alfaraz, MD has joined the medical staff of NVRH Corner Medical; he is a Board Certified Family Medicine physician. Alfaraz grew up in Holland, Michigan, which is in the western part of the state. He studied liberal arts and psychology at Hope College for two years. His family is from Cuba; he finished his undergraduate studies at Universidad Pontifica in Santiago, Dominican Republic.
While volunteering at a hospital in Santiago, he enjoyed the interaction with people, and the ability to help, which resulted in his commitment to study medicine. Additionally, many of his family members have been pharmacologists, so Dr. Alfaraz grew up with both a curiosity and knowledge about the uses and effects of drugs. His medical interest lies in Integrative medicine, which addresses the physical, emotional, mental, social, spiritual and environmental influences that affect a person’s health.
He attended Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena in Santo Domingo, and received his MD in 1987. After completing his internship and residency at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta as well as the Medical Center Family Practice Program in Columbus, GA, he practiced in both the west and Midwest.
“We are very excited to welcome Dr. Alfaraz to the team at Corner Medical. His background in primary care with a commitment to providing community-based care makes him a valuable asset to the practice,” said Paula Gaskin, Practice Manager.
Dr. Alfaraz enjoys practicing in a community with a small hospital. “The staff at Corner Medical have been very welcoming. It’s a well organized practice, and I especially like the community collaborative efforts made on behalf of patients.”
He and his wife have two children. His enjoyments include organic gardening, hiking, world cuisine and music.
