Eugene J. Dixon, MD, FACS is Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital’s new full-time Urologist. Dr. Dixon is board certified with the American Board of Urology, as well as a Fellow with the American Board of Surgeons.
He most recently practiced at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach, MO, where he was named Physician of the Year in 2009.
Dr. Dixon grew up in Ambler, PA, outside of Philadelphia. He received his Bachelor of Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, with the intention of going into biomedical engineering. After working as a researcher in a biomedical lab, he decided to become a physician, thereby entering the Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, earning his MD in 1987.
During his surgery residency at the State University of New York, Health Science Center at Syracuse, he would drive to Vermont to hike, camp and rejuvenate, which is how he became familiar with the Northeast Kingdom.
Completing his residency at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 1993, he worked in both private practice and as Chairman of a hospital Urology Department. Dr. Dixon has taught medical students, supervised urology residents, given presentations and received various recognitions and scholarships.
The lure of practicing in a rural community hospital has always been in the back of his mind, so when the opportunity arose at NVRH, he looked into it. “I have been warmly welcomed here, and have been impressed by the open and friendly atmosphere. I am enjoying getting to know the patients, and look forward to collaborating with the medical staff on behalf of the community.”
Specialty Services Practice Manager Tammy Wilkins is excited about Dr. Dixon’s arrival. “We are so pleased that Dr. Dixon has joined our Team. It is important to accommodate our local patients with quality care close to home and Dr. Dixon’s distinguished and knowledgeable career is a tremendous asset to our community.”
He and his long-time partner Judy are living in Lisbon, NH. In their spare time, they enjoy hiking, kayaking and biking. His large extended family live on the East coast so he’s pleased to be within closer proximity.
