Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital is pleased to announce Seleem R. Choudhury as the new Chief Nursing Officer. Seleem was most recently the Associate Chief Nursing Officer at Denver Health in Denver, CO; he was Acting Chief Nurse while the Chief Nurse was on medical leave. He is Board Certified
In Emergency Nursing, and received both his Masters of Nursing degree and Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix.
“During my visits to NVRH, I was very impressed with all that the hospital is engaged in and committed to accomplishing. The St. Johnsbury community feels very family-oriented, as does the hospital. I am excited for my new role here,” said Seleem.
Seleem was born and raised in South London, England. A passionate and accomplished soccer player, he was approached to play by professional soccer teams, but decided to pursue his nursing degree at the Nightingale School of Nursing, King’s College University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1994. He and his wife Caroline, also a nurse, came to the United States in 1999.
Earlier in his career, Seleem was the Manager of Education at several large hospitals in NYC, and Director of Emergency Departments/Services at hospitals in Virginia and Colorado. At Parker Adventist Hospital in Colorado, he increased patient satisfaction scores from the 30 percentile to the 99th percentile within a year, with the hospital receiving two national awards for the delivery of safe and good quality care.
Whenever possible, Seleem works on the clinical side of nursing care, since patient care is crucial to his personal commitment to quality healthcare.
A student and advocate of both Lean Management Principles and the Six Sigma program, he uses the analysis, strategies, techniques and tools for process improvement. In 2011, he was featured on the PBS News Hour discussing the impact of Lean in the Emergency Department at Denver Health.
Paul Bengtson, CEO states, “Seleem’s breadth of experience adds tremendous strength to NVRH. Moreover, his engaging personality will assist him in his work with patients, nurses, physicians and trustees.”
Seleem is the President of the Colorado Nursing Association, and as of January 1, 2014, the Chair for the USA Emergency Nurses Association Foundation. The National Foundation raises funds for educational scholarships for Nurses and Emergency Medical Technicians.
Seleem and Caroline live with their three children, India, Oliver and Ezra in St. Johnsbury. Seleem enjoys running and is still an avid soccer fan and occasional player. He is in the process of joining the medical unit of the Air Force Reserves and eventually plans on returning to graduate school to earn his PhD as a Health Executive.
